Arriving in Italy as a Small Group

Why the meeting point is agreed in advance

Italian airports set their kerbside rules by ENAC ordinance, and these change several times a year, so the current version is checked before you travel. At Fiumicino, Linate, Pisa and Malpensa arrivals, buses need an authorisation or an agreement with the airport, which the operator arranges. No airport publishes a meeting point for groups, so yours is fixed when you book. Florence has only three bus bays, which makes punctual pickups matter.

Rules to know before you set off

Municipalities may let NCC cars wait in port, airport and railway areas in places kept separate from the taxi ranks; taxis keep priority at the passenger exits (L. 21/1992 art. 11 c. 6 and 7)
Venice's Piazzale Roma, next to the Marittima cruise terminal, is about 15 km by road from Venice Marco Polo airport (about 25 min by coach in light traffic); the Fusina terminal is about 23 km (about 40 min)

Mind the names

Milan Bergamo lies next to Bergamo, about 56 km from the Duomo, and Malpensa is about 53 km out; only Linate, around 7 km away, is close. Taormina's gateway is Catania, roughly 1 h 10 min along the coast.

Include each flight number when you book. The pickup is planned around the actual arrival, and if you change flights, just send the new details.

How long is the ride from Fiumicino to Rome?

Around 35 minutes to Piazza Venezia when the roads are quiet, about 28 km, and far longer at peak hours.

Can three or four of us take a car instead?

Yes. Up to eight passengers can travel in a car with driver (NCC), which is always reserved in advance and never hailed at the kerb.
