Linate: Milan's Close-In Airport for Small Groups

Linate is the airport to pick when Milan itself is the destination: about 7 km from Piazza del Duomo, around 20 minutes in light traffic. Its rules for buses are strict, though, so the size of vehicle matters more here than elsewhere.

Nine seats make the difference

Cars with driver of up to nine seats reach their barrier-controlled areas in arrivals by the ordinary lane. Bigger vans and buses, a 16-seat minibus among them, use the reserved lane, which requires a City of Milan authorisation and is watched by cameras.

Once there, a bus may stop only to load and unload, and Linate has no waiting area for coaches at all. The driver therefore pulls in as your group reaches the kerb with its bags. For a family or a party of eight, a van-type car with driver is the simplest choice.

Through the city to your hotel

Much of central Milan lies inside Area C, a charged zone active on weekdays from 07:30 to 19:30, and only Euro VI buses may enter it. The operator checks the vehicle's eligibility and activates what is needed. Official set-down points in the centre include Piazza Castello and Via Marina.

The M4 metro gets from Linate Aeroporto station to San Babila in around 12 minutes, useful for anyone travelling light who wants to go ahead while the others wait for the bags. Short-stay car parks P10 to P12 give cars 15 minutes free, if a friend is collecting someone separately.

Beyond Milan

What travellers ask us

Can the driver wait while we collect our bags?

Not with a bus: there is no coach waiting area, and the bays are only for loading. A car with driver has its own barrier-controlled area in arrivals, which gives more room to manoeuvre.

Is Linate the same as Milan Bergamo?

No. Linate is within easy reach of the centre, about 7 km from the Duomo, while Milan Bergamo is about 56 km away, next to Bergamo.

Does Area C affect a minibus?

Yes. Buses with more than nine seats need a daily Area C activation, which includes five hours of parking in the coach areas, and only Euro VI vehicles may enter. The operator arranges it, and the quote shows how it is handled.
