Turin, Its Royal Palaces and the Langhe by Minibus
Turin surprises many visitors: one of the great Egyptian collections, grand museums and royal palaces on the doorstep. For a small group it is also the gateway to the Langhe, the hills of truffles and Barolo, a little over an hour away.
The centre and the ZTL
The Museo Egizio, the Mole Antonelliana with the cinema museum, and the royal palace on Piazza Castello are all within the central limited-traffic zone, which cameras enforce. Unlike Rome or Florence, Turin publishes no special permit scheme for tourist buses. So the operator maps out how your minibus gets in, picks the spot where everyone steps down, and makes sure the vehicle you book is allowed.
The ZTL is sometimes suspended in summer, on dates the city sets each year, so the plan is made against the current calendar.

Palaces within half an hour
The Reggia di Venaria Reale, with its gardens, is about 25 minutes from Piazza Castello, and the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi about the same. The Basilica di Superga, on its hill above the city, is about 30 minutes by road; some groups ride up on the Sassi-Superga rack railway and meet the minibus at the top. The Sacra di San Michele, an abbey high above the Susa valley, makes a fine half-day at about 1 h 5 min.

The Langhe and the mountains
Alba is about 1 h 15 min away and Barolo about 1 h 20 min, with Asti on the way at about 1 h 5 min. A wine day in the Langhe suits a minibus perfectly: narrow roads, small cellars, and a driver who, by law, does not drink at all.
For mountain air, allow roughly 1 h 50 min to Aosta, or a few minutes more to Sestriere and the Via Lattea slopes. Milan and Genoa are each a little over two hours, so a day in either is possible with an early start.
What travellers ask us
How far is Turin's airport from the centre?
Caselle's Sandro Pertini airport lies some 18 km north; on clear roads the run to Piazza Castello takes half an hour. Milan Malpensa is about 137 km, roughly two hours.
Where are the main fair and congress venues?
Lingotto Fiere, in the former Fiat factory south of the centre on Via Nizza, with its own metro station. The Inalpi Arena, beside the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, hosts the Nitto ATP Finals and concerts.
Can we watch Juventus or Torino FC?
Juventus are at home in the Allianz Stadium, up in the north-west; Torino FC play at the Olimpico Grande Torino on the southern side. The operator agrees the drop-off point for match days.
