Coach & Minibus Hire in Italy

Away Days for Teams, from Five-a-Side to a Full Squad

A volleyball team, a youth football squad with its coaches, a running club heading for a race: the vehicle has to carry the players, the kit and the nerves, and arrive with time for a warm-up. A minibus suits up to sixteen; a midibus or a coach takes a full squad and staff.

Choosing the size

The licence says a lot about the vehicle. Category D1 stops at sixteen passengers and a length of 8 m; anything bigger needs a full category D licence. For a squad with bags, balls and a physio's table, count the kit as well as the people, because a minibus with every seat taken has little luggage room left.

On the road, everyone over three uses the fitted seat belt once seated. A quick reminder to younger players before the motorway does no harm.

Plan for bus speeds, not car speeds

Above 8 t, a bus is capped at 100 km/h on the autostrade and 80 km/h on country roads, so a match in another region takes longer than a car's satnav suggests. Milan to Turin is about 145 km, roughly 2 h 10 min by coach, and Bologna–Florence takes around 1 h 45 min. Most motorways charge tolls, paid at the barriers or electronically, and the operator sorts them out.

Leave a margin for the stadium approach as well. Grounds such as San Siro, the Maradona in Naples or the Luigi Ferraris in Genoa fill up before kick-off, and stadium names change with sponsors, so give the street address too.

Rules to know before you set off

  • On a single occasional coach trip, national or international, the driver may postpone the weekly rest for up to 12 days; since 2024 this applies to national trips too
  • Occupants over three years old must wear the bus seat belts when seated (art. 172 c. 6)

Tournaments and training camps

For a week away, a driver on one occasional trip may push the weekly rest back as far as 12 days; since 2024 this holds for domestic trips too, not only abroad. A team can keep the same driver for a whole tournament, with the daily driving limit still in place.

What travellers ask us

Can the vehicle wait during the match?

Yes. The driver parks where the stadium or the town allows and is ready when the team comes out.

Can we stop for food on the way home?

Of course. Mention it in the request, so the stop fits into the driver's working day.

Parents want to follow the team. Is that possible?

A second minibus or a car with driver can travel alongside on the same plan, and everyone arrives together.

Do we pay the tolls separately?

Ask for them to be included in the quote, so the team manager has one figure to approve.
