Coach & Minibus Hire in Italy

Capodichino Arrivals, then the Bay or the Coast

Capodichino is barely 8 km from Piazza del Municipio, so Naples airport sits almost in town, and it is where most groups land for Sorrento, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. A minibus fits this corner of Italy well, because its coast roads favour smaller vehicles.

Setting down is easy; waiting is not

Tourist buses may use the yellow bays along the central lane next to the terminal, but only to let passengers and bags off. Nowhere is a pick-up spot for tourist coaches designated, and parking is banned everywhere outside the marked areas, with vehicles liable to be towed. That is why the meeting place, and the spot where the minibus waits, are fixed with the operator when you book.

Smaller parties travelling by car with driver are collected in the barrier-controlled car parks, and taller vans use the "Pick Up" area. Bear in mind that the airport shuts between 22:30 and 03:30 unless a flight is exceptionally late.

The coast needs the right size of vehicle

From the airport it is some 51 km to Piazza Tasso in Sorrento (around 1 h 15 min) and 64 km to Amalfi (nearer 1 h 25 min), the last part on a narrow road that slows right down in summer. Buses longer than 10.36 m or higher than 4 m are banned from the Amalfi coast road altogether, so a minibus or midi-coach is how a group reaches Positano and Amalfi by road.

On busy days the same road also runs an alternate number-plate scheme, set year by year; the 2027 calendar is not out yet, so the operator checks your dates. In Amalfi itself buses load and unload only at one coach area, with the stop booked ahead.

The terminals in brief

  • One passenger terminal at Capodichino

Worth knowing about Naples International Airport

  • Amalfi is about 64 km by road, about 1 h 25 min in light traffic; the coast road is narrow and slow in summer.
  • Pompei (excavations, Porta Marina) is about 27 km by road, about 35 min in light traffic.
  • Sorrento (Piazza Tasso) is about 51 km by road, about 1 h 15 min in light traffic.
  • Extra-urban buses from the PBUS area serve the Sorrento coast (Pompei, Vico Equense, Sorrento), Salerno, the Cilento and Caserta.
  • A metro Line 1 station at Capodichino is under construction; it is not open yet.
  • Alibus links the airport with Napoli Centrale (Piazza Garibaldi, about 15 minutes) and the port (Porta di Massa and Molo Beverello, about 35 minutes).
  • The airport is reached from the Tangenziale di Napoli and the A1/A3/A16 motorways, exit Capodichino-Aeroporto.

Pompeii on the way

Porta Marina, the entrance to the Pompeii excavations, lies 27 km or so from Capodichino, a drive of around 35 minutes, so a visit on the way to Sorrento is realistic after a morning landing. Book group entry with the site in advance, and the operator confirms where the minibus parks during the visit.

What travellers ask us

Can we take the metro from the airport?

Not at the moment, because the Line 1 station at Capodichino is under construction. Alibus reaches Napoli Centrale in roughly 15 minutes, then carries on to Molo Beverello at the port in around 35.

Can a minibus drive into central Naples?

Yes, with conditions. Vehicles with more than eight passenger seats need a ticket to enter the historic-centre zones and may park only in listed areas, so the operator plans the stop closest to your hotel.

What happens if our flight lands very late?

Night operations stop at 22:30, except for exceptional delays. If your flight is one of those, the driver follows its number, and the quote explains how extra waiting is handled.
