Palermo Punta Raisi Arrivals, Coast and City
Punta Raisi, where Palermo's airport stands by the sea, is about 31 km west of the Quattro Canti. New rules for its arrivals area take effect on 5 October 2026, so the details of your pick-up are confirmed close to travel.
The new arrivals zone
The ordinance signed on 28 September 2026 puts a barrier-controlled zone in front of arrivals, open to local buses, tourist coaches, cars with driver and taxis, with entry by number plate or card. Inside are six bays where buses set passengers down, and tourist coaches have a paid car park with 15 bays at the zone's exit. Cars with driver use their own bays facing the former cargo terminal, by the west gate and in car park P2.
Bay numbers may change again as works go on, which is why nothing is fixed until shortly before your date. Palermo names no meeting point for groups either; that comes from the operator.

Into Palermo
The A29 motorway brings you to the centre in about 45 minutes in light traffic. Much of the old town is a limited-traffic zone where tourist buses need a pass, and its narrow streets and market lanes are no place for a vehicle, so the operator plans a set-down on the main roads nearby, for instance by the Cathedral or the Teatro Massimo.
Anyone going on ahead without luggage can take the metropolitan railway from the airport's own station to Notarbartolo or Centrale.
The terminals in brief
- One passenger terminal at Punta Raisi, with departures and arrivals levels
Worth knowing about Palermo Airport
- Cefalù is about 104 km by road, about 1 h 50 min in light traffic.
- Monreale is about 35 km by road, about 45 min in light traffic.
- The ordinance of 28 September 2026, in force from 5 October 2026, replaces the one of February 2026; bay numbers may change again with works.
- Trains of the Palermo metropolitan rail service link the airport station with Palermo Notarbartolo and Palermo Centrale.
- The airport is on the coast west of Palermo, reached by the A29 motorway (exit 'Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino').
Monreale and Cefalù
Monreale, in the hills above the city, makes a 35 km drive of three quarters of an hour; the operator confirms where a minibus can park there. Cefalù is about 104 km east, nearer 1 h 50 min, and makes a gentle first night for a group heading along the north coast.
What travellers ask us
Are the airport rules settled?
They have just changed: the new ordinance replaces February's and applies from 5 October 2026. Bay counts may shift again with works, so the pick-up details are checked before you fly.
How long can a vehicle stay at the kerb?
Fifteen minutes, free of charge, in the controlled zones outside both departures and arrivals; cameras log the plates. Longer waits happen in the car parks, away from the terminal front.
Can we stay by the sea instead of in the old town?
Of course. Mondello, by the sea, is one of Palermo's hotel areas, and the operator plans the drive there instead of into the centre.
