Bari and the Towns of Puglia by Minibus

Bari is a lively port city with a walkable old town and a coastline of white towns on either side. For a small group it makes a practical base: the airport is close, and Polignano, the trulli and Matera are all within easy reach by minibus.

Bari Vecchia is for walking

Buses never drive into Bari Vecchia, the old quarter on the peninsula between the two harbours, which is a limited-traffic zone. Since 1 July 2026 a new gate by the Castello lets in only authorised vehicles, for loading and unloading on weekday mornings and afternoons; the seafront parking in Piazzale Mincuzzi now belongs to residents, and Strada Arco Basso has become pedestrian.

In the sources checked, the city names no drop-off points or bus parks for the old quarter, so the operator confirms where the minibus can stop, either along the seafront or on a main road nearby.

What to see in town

The Basilica di San Nicola, a pilgrimage church for Catholic and Orthodox visitors alike, is the heart of the old town. The Norman-Swabian castle stands at its edge, and the lungomare leads past the grid of the 19th-century Murat district. The Teatro Petruzzelli on Corso Cavour is the city's opera house.

Each May, from the 7th to the 9th, crowds pour in for San Nicola's feast and its historic procession, and roads close across the old town and the lungomare.
