Coach & Minibus Hire in Italy

Accessible Days Out for the Whole Group

A group with one or more wheelchair users should not have to split up. An accessible minibus with a ramp or lift lets everyone travel together, and a little planning about where the vehicle stops makes the day easier still.

What EU passenger rights cover, and what they don't

EU law gives disabled bus passengers a right to assistance only on scheduled routes covering at least 250 km, and only when they warn the carrier 36 hours or more ahead. Hiring a minibus privately falls outside that, so the accessible vehicle and any help with boarding are arranged with each booking. That makes your request the most important step.

Rules to know before you set off

  • Those rights cover scheduled services, so on a private hire accessible vehicles and assistance are arranged with each booking
  • In Venice, Piazzale Roma is the only point of the historic city reachable by road, and the People Mover links it with the Marittima cruise terminal

What to tell us

Say how many wheelchair users are travelling, whether each stays in the chair or moves to a seat, and the type of chair, especially if it is powered. Wheelchair positions replace some seats and take luggage room, so mention the bags too.

Once seated, anyone older than three wears whatever belts and restraints are fitted. Ask how a wheelchair is secured in the vehicle offered, and whether anyone who prefers a seat can transfer.

Places that work well

Verona's Arena has step-free entry to the stalls via gates 1, 4 and 8, where a metal ramp leads up from Piazza Bra. Venice's road ends at Piazzale Roma, the one spot in the historic city a vehicle can reach, and the People Mover runs from there to the Marittima cruise terminal. In Florence, Piazzale Michelangelo lets buses set down and pick up for up to 20 minutes, time enough for an unhurried boarding.

Ask each museum or site about its own access before the day: step-free routes and group arrangements differ from place to place.

What travellers ask us

Ramp or lift: which do we need?

Tell us the type, size and weight of each chair, and the operator matches the vehicle and its ramp or lift to them.

Can the rest of the group ride in the same vehicle?

Often, yes. Depending on the layout, an accessible minibus combines wheelchair positions with ordinary seats; a bigger group can add a second minibus.

Does the driver help with boarding?

Help with the ramp or lift is arranged with the booking, so describe any assistance needed when you ask.
