Verona, Lake Garda and the Wine Hills by Minibus

Verona is the gentlest of bases. The Arena, Juliet's balcony and the old squares lie within a short walk of one another, and Lake Garda's shore is under an hour away. Sort out the bus pass, and the rest of the stay takes care of itself.

A pass for the day you travel

Tourist buses need a PASS ZTL Bus to drive in Verona's bus zone, a scheme run by AMT3. Each pass lasts only until 24:00 on its own date, and that date is fixed at purchase, so wait until your plans are settled. The printed pass or machine receipt stays on the dashboard, and since 1 October 2026 checks have been stepped up.

Machines stand at the entrances to the city, including on Viale del Lavoro opposite the trade fair and at the stadium's car park C. Reduced and free passes, for example for hotel groups and school trips, are sold online only, by 23:59 the day before.

Stepping down near the Arena

The old centre is largely pedestrian. Along the permitted bus route, set-down stalls near the sights allow 5 to 15 minutes for passengers to get on and off. From there it is a stroll to Piazza Bra, the Casa di Giulietta, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori.

Within the zone, buses may park in just two places: the staffed Parcheggio Centro terminal by Campo Marzo, and Stadio C on Via Sogare. For an evening at the summer opera festival, ask the operator about a late pick-up, since the pass covers its own date only.

Lake Garda and the Valpolicella

Allow half an hour for the Valpolicella cellars at San Pietro in Cariano. On the lake, Bardolino takes around three quarters of an hour; Garda and Sirmione a little more. Malcesine, with its cable car up Monte Baldo, takes about 1 h 30 min and Riva del Garda about 1 h 25 min. Families often head to Gardaland, about 35 minutes out.

Away from the lake, Mantova is around 50 minutes, Vicenza about an hour and Padova about 1 h 20 min. Venice's Piazzale Roma is roughly 1 h 45 min, an easy day for a group based here.

What travellers ask us

How far is Verona airport?

The Valerio Catullo airport at Villafranca lies roughly 18 km out; count on 35 minutes to Piazza Bra on clear roads. Venice Marco Polo is about 127 km, and Milan Bergamo about 118 km.

Does a school group pay for the pass?

School trips can get a reduced or free pass, bought online only by the evening before. Local schools from the city or province can also leave the vehicle at Stadio C without charge, if they bring a school letter.

Is Verona busy during Vinitaly and other fairs?

Veronafiere, south of the centre near the Verona Sud exit, hosts large fairs. Book the vehicle early for those weeks, and allow extra time around the exhibition grounds.
