Coach & Minibus Hire in Italy

Getting Your Wedding Guests There and Home Again

On the day, the last thing a couple wants is guests lost in a hill town looking for parking. One or two minibuses running between hotel, ceremony and reception keep everyone together, while the couple travel separately in a car with driver.

A car for the couple, a minibus for the guests

In Italy, hiring a car with its driver means NCC (noleggio con conducente). It is reserved in advance at the operator's garage or office, apps included, and never hailed. Outside the church it may stop on the street while it waits for the couple, though in towns with taxis it may not wait on the taxi stands. A car holds at most nine people including the driver; beyond that the vehicle counts as a bus and is hired under the bus law.

Historic centres and where to stop

Many ceremonies take place inside a ZTL, the limited-traffic zone around a historic centre, where vehicles need a permit or a registration to enter. The stopping point at the church or town hall is agreed with the operator well before the day. In Florence the bus ZTL covers the whole built-up area, so a guest minibus there runs on a permit bought online beforehand.

Taormina keeps tourist coaches out of its old centre. Buses wait at the Lumbi coach park, where a shuttle runs to Porta Messina about every 15 minutes, so allow for it when guests head back to their hotels.

Rules to know before you set off

  • An NCC car may stop on the street while waiting for the customer who booked it, but may not wait on taxi stands in towns with a taxi service (L. 21/1992 art. 11 c. 3 and 4-ter)
  • The driver must not drink any alcohol before driving (art. 186-bis c. 1, Codice della Strada)

Lake and coast weddings

On Lake Como, nothing longer than 10.5 m may use the shore road to Bellagio, and Como's old town lets coaches in only with an authorisation to carry guests of hotels inside it. On the Amalfi Coast no bus over 10.36 m may use the coast road, and Ravello admits tourist coaches only with an authorisation requested online by the day before, for guests going to its hotels or restaurants. A road ordinance for heavier vehicles up to Ravello was due for review after September 2026, so the operator checks whether it still applies. Minibuses and midibuses within the limits are the practical answer for these weddings.

What travellers ask us

Will the driver join the toast?

No. The law sets a zero alcohol limit for the driver, which is exactly why guests are glad of the minibus.

Can one minibus do several runs?

Yes. Many weddings use one minibus for two or three loops between hotels and the venue. Give us the guest numbers per hotel and the ceremony time.

How late can guests go home?

As late as the party runs, within the driver's working hours. For a very long day, the operator may plan a second driver for the evening.
