Met at Fiumicino, then on the Road into Rome
Fiumicino is Rome's main airport and a busy one, with two terminals in use: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Send us the flight number and terminal, and a licensed partner's minibus with driver meets you where it is allowed to stop.
Car or minibus: the rules differ
Italian law draws its line at nine seats, driver included. Up to that size the vehicle is a car with driver (NCC), which suits a family of up to eight and their cases. Anything larger, from a 16-seat minibus to a full coach, is legally a bus, and at Fiumicino that changes where you meet it.
Authorised buses pick groups up from the Terminal 3 Bus Station, found at arrivals beside exit 6, where a 45-minute stay is the limit. Cars with driver licensed outside Rome or Fiumicino pick up in a reserved part of multi-storey car park B at Terminal 1, or in car park PR7 at Terminal 3, with 40 minutes to load and leave. The operator sorts out the access; you follow the meeting instructions sent with the booking.

Timing the pick-up around a busy hub
Passport control and the baggage hall can be slow at peak times, and the 45-minute limit at the Bus Station leaves little slack. That is why the driver works from your actual landing rather than the timetable, and why one person in the group should keep a phone switched on after touching down.
Inside the terminal, signs marked "BUS" lead to the Bus Station. The roads around the airport often have short-notice works, so the operator checks the current way in before setting out.
The terminals in brief
- Terminal 3 (with the Bus Station on the arrivals level)
- Terminal 1
Worth knowing about Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport
- Civitavecchia (cruise port, to Largo della Pace at the port entrance) is about 66 km by road, about 1 h in light traffic.
- Short-notice road works are common on the airport road network (ENAC issues several temporary ordinances a year); the operator checks the current access route.
- Taxi ranks are at the arrivals level of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
- Interregional coaches leave from the Bus Station on the Terminal 3 arrivals level; city buses to Roma Termini and other parts of Roma leave from numbered stands nearby, and regional buses from the Terminal 1 stop.
- The Leonardo Express train runs non-stop between the airport station and Roma Termini in about 32 minutes, every 15 minutes for most of the day (every 30 minutes in some time slots). The FL1 regional line also serves the airport station, with stops across Roma.
Rome itself, or the cruise port
The run to Piazza Venezia covers some 28 km: roughly 35 minutes on a quiet road, and a good deal more in the rush hour. A minibus with more than nine seats needs Rome's paid bus permit for the inner zones, sold online only since January 2026, and the historic heart around the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain is closed to tourist buses apart from a few authorised cases. Give us the hotel address and the operator plans the nearest permitted stop, which may be a short walk from the door.
Cruise passengers often turn the other way. Civitavecchia's port entrance at Largo della Pace is about 66 km from the airport, roughly an hour in light traffic. Cars and taxis set down at the port gates, where shuttles run to the berths.
What travellers ask us
Is the train quicker for a small group?
The Leonardo Express runs non-stop to Roma Termini in about 32 minutes. It suits light travellers staying near Termini. With children, grandparents or a pile of cases, one vehicle to the hotel is far easier.
How many people fit in a minibus?
Typically 9 to 16 passengers plus the driver, with luggage room at the back that shrinks when every seat is taken. For a group of twenty or more, or plenty of golf bags and pushchairs, a midi-coach is more comfortable.
Which terminal will we land at?
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3: the airline's booking shows which. Pass it on with the flight number so the pick-up is planned on the right side.
